29th of February? Leap year proposal? Come on girls what are you waiting for!! If you can prove that you proposed today and book with us a free gift will be yours on your happy day. The best proposal gets somthing really super! Don't say we didn't try to give you that little push ladies!

Here's a lovely photo of Janet our Housekeeping supervisor. She's been away shopping for little extras to dress the bedrooms for even more luxury and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Never have I seen a girl so happy!!

Needless to say Achnagairn is busy as always so it's great to see added frills at every new step.

The Perfect Highland Winter Wedding Venue

We were so delighted by the first snows of winter yesterday that we had to stop our staff training day and go out and take a few shots!

Achnagairn as you can see lends itself to this time of year. From the beautiful grace of the outside of the building to the fires, stoves and snugs of the public rooms, Achnagairn has it all.

Nobody turned up for the 7:30am snowman competition. We will re-schedule!! Watch this blog!

Arriving in Style

We are well into our wedding season now at Achnagairn and it is a fantastic sight to see so many happy couples with beautiful brides.

How to arrive and depart from your wedding venue is always a hot topic when planning your wedding but not for a recent local bride at Achnagairn - she rode her horse to and from the local church with her bridesmaids in attendance on the way there and her husband leading her and the horse on the way back, a first for Achnagairn! Congratulations on your wedding!

We hope we see many more inventive transport ideas in the future months.

Achnagairn Wedding Fair update

Well - what a day the Fair turned out to be! We were a bit nervous as this was our first one but with no need - the sun came out, the suppliers were wonderful and, most importantly, loads of people came along to participate and enjoy the day. We had a steady stream of brides-to-be, mothers-of-brides-to-be, slightly wary looking fathers-of-brides-to-be and even more wary looking bridegrooms-to-be - however, they needn't have worried, our stunning House and friendly staff soon won them over although I guess the glass of welcoming bubbly helped! The owner, Gillian, and other members of staff showed interested parties around the House - lots of ooohs and aaahs and wows - even some tears when the beautiful bridal suite was seen!
Our recommended suppliers did a magnificent job and they were kept fully occupied for the whole day - many thanks to all of them who helped make it such a success - we'll definitely be holding another one! All agreed that, as a Highland Wedding Venue, it's hard to beat Achnagairn House!

Wedding Fair 20th March 2010

It's been quite a while since I've written anything on the Achnagairn House blog - busy times recently - but no excuses! We've had a good winter season with plenty of "wonderland" weddings and two Christmas Parties which were a huge success - thanks to all who came along and made them go with a real bang!

The Spring wedding season is well under way and we decided to hold our first ever Wedding Fair on Sunday 20th March between 11am and 4.30pm. We've got loads of new ideas and exciting suppliers attending, along with fashion shows throughout the day. Come along and meet the Achnagairn team and owner Gillian - we'll be delighted to show you around this stunning wedding venue and have a chat. We've got some tantalising incentives on offer which include our wonderful villa in Antigua - perfect for a honeymoon - so just turn up and enjoy, no registration is necessary!

Maggie's - Ladies Wimbledon Lunch

Achnagairn House was delighted to sponsor and host a fund-raising event for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, organised by Jackie Cuddy, on Wednesday 30th June. Once again the sun shone and the 116 women (and one man!) had the perfect opportunity to dress up in style. The theme for the day was Wimbledon, it being that time of year, and it was very apparent, especially in the Fancy Hat Competition which was won by a very creative lady with two large tennis balls on her head (well, I guess they were attached to a Fascinator really!). I do hope they were easily removed!

The day involved lunch, very kindly catered for and sponsored by the Glenmoriston Hotel; a raffle; a silent auction with David Sutherland as the very persuasive auctioneer; tarot readings and stalls; as well as a live screening of the Men's Quarter Finals game. It also included some very personal and moving stories from Jackie and Laura who updated everyone on the extremely important work and care that Maggie's provides.

It was a very successful occasion and raised £15k for the charity, helped by many sponsors too numerous to mention - you know who you are so a big thank you! The owner of Achnagairn, Gillian, and her House Management team were really pleased with how well the day went and were very happy to be able to contribute to the significant amount raised on the day. All in all, game set and match to Maggie's and Achnagairn!

Open Day and HWBC Dinner

Whew! The first Open Day at Achnagairn was held on Saturday 5th June and what a day it turned out to be. Firstly, the sun shone - always a bonus! After that, everything was set fair, with over 200 visitors during the course of the afternoon which certainly kept everyone busy! Our guests were entertained by the fabulous duo, Skelbo; refreshed by our amazing new House Team who produced as many cakes and scones etc as could be consumed; children were face-painted and balloon-twisted by Rhona from Bubbles, and "walked on water", courtesy of Boots n Paddles. Visual impact was created by Grant from Angela Stewart who let his imagination run riot in the main reception hall - an indoor tree - you had to see it to believe it! All in all, the House looked its best and there was a real buzz about the place.

The owner, Gillian, and the Management Team (and Simon!) were on hand to welcome, have a chat and show off the magnificent house with its amazing ballroom, bedrooms and facilities. Some guests had to be restrained from jumping into our huge jacuzzi baths and staying there, just so tempting! For the men, our new eco-boilers were a source of fascination (well, whatever turns you on!). We met a lot of local people who had personal connections with the house in the past and had interesting stories to tell which all helps to build up a history of this fascinating venue - but more on that at a later date!

Thanks to all who came along, we've had plenty of feedback which says you all had a great afternoon and appreciated the opportunity to come along - we certainly enjoyed it!

Not content with that success, we held the Highland Women's Business Club dinner on Sunday evening, 6th of June. How wonderful it was to see 80 ladies (and just a few men!) congregating for a glass of champagne, a chat, and wonderful dinner (thanks to Wilde Thyme) in the splendid ambience of the ballroom and reception rooms. The evening went really well - a few Monday morning headaches are suspected! We look forward to hosting this dinner (and others like it) again in the future - it was great fun and some new friendships and contacts were definitely made so very worthwhile from a business networking point of view. I now know how important Facebook and Twitter are, thanks to lots of pointers during the course of the evening!
